Tales From a World Apart
It was his birthday, and it was his party, and yet he sat in complete silence as the jovial sound of a thousand conversations echoed about his ears. His wide, staring eyes had glazed over long ago while his pretty, pretty girlfriend had been giving him the details of her week at work, or some other nonsense such as that.
He was listening to three songs at once, lost in the haze of some audio-dopamine maze. He saw the code, the key, the way to please, all needed to write his music, to paint the heart of his son, to craft the perfect one. A billion stars passed his vision, a million worlds and their suns, and he even fancied he watched an atom and its individual electrons. All these wondrous sights and more paraded behind his eyes, in front of closed doors, for longer than a hundred kilo-centuries, or about five minutes, in Earth years.
